Mumbai: One in ten hospital staff exposed to Covid-19, JJ serum study shows

MUMBAI: While the BMC on Friday started testing its healthcare and frontline workers for Covid-19, a rapid blood test done among both medical and non-medical staff at the state-run JJ group of hospitals showed that one in 10 of those surveyed have had previous exposure to the novel coronavirus.
However, a closer look at the results showed that 18.5% of the 300 support staff tested were seropositive (giving a positive result in a test of blood serum, like for the presence of a virus). “In contrast, only 7% of the 200 doctors and 200 nurses were seropositive,” said Dr Nishant Kumar of Eyebetes Foundation, which conducted the sero survey along with JJ Hospital and NCP MP Supriya Sule’s office.
