Diabetes is one of the commonest causes of blindness in the world. In India where we have more than 80 million diabetics, blindness from diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions.
Unfortunately a lot of people going blind from diabetes belong to villages, tribal areas and are people living below poverty line. These people have limited monetary resources and limited access to health care.
In 2016 Dr. Nishant Kumar started Eyebetes Foundation, a registered charitable organization, which creates awareness about diabetes and diabetes and blindness and provides free screening for diabetes and the common causes of blindness.
In a short span of 3 years Eyebetes Foundation has become ‘India’s Largest Charitable Initiative Against Diabetes and Blindness.’
Distinguished personalities like Sachin Tendulkar (Bharat Ratna and legendary cricketer), Sunil Gavaskar (cricket legend), Sunil Shetty (Bollywood actor) Riteish Deshmukh (Bollywood and Marathi actor), Farooq Abdullah, (Ex-Union Minister and Ex-Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir), Sudhir Mungantiwar (Finance Minister, Maharashtra), Girish Mahajan (Irrigation Minister, Maharashtra), Sharad Pawar (Former Chief Minister Maharashtra and Union Minister), Ashok Hinduja (leading Industrialist) and numerous other sports personalities, politicians, actors, singers and entertainers are supporters and ambassadors of the work Eyebetes foundation does.
