Eyebetes Foundation, a philanthropic initiative by Dr Nishant Kumar, eye and retinal Surgeon, Hinduja Hospital, Khar, has organised one of the largest charitable initiatives against diabetes and common eye conditions during the 11 days of Ganeshotsav. The camp set outside Siddhivinayak Temple, will have experienced doctors, nurses and opticians providing free blood pressure, blood sugar, vision assessment and screening check-ups. It is estimated that more than 25,000 people will benefit from this initiative.

There is overwhelming evidence that the burden of diabetes and hypertension is on the rise in India. In fact, the two chronic diseases, euphemistically called high sugar and high BP, coexist in as many as twenty per cent patients. Almost half of the world’s diabetics are Indians, with an estimated 72 million cases in the country, and this number is expected to increase to 134 million.

The Eyebetes Foundation, under the capable leadership of Dr Nishant Kumar, has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about the link between diabetes and blindness, and this year they are conducting one of the largest screening camps in the world at the Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi during the 11-day Ganpati Utsav.

The Eyebetes Foundation, lead by Dr Nishant Kumar, has organised an 11-day-long free eye check-up for the devotees of the Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi.

The on-going Eyebetes clinic set up at Siddhivinayak by Dr. Nishant Kumar is proving to be a success, drawing thousands in everyday. Ex-chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, a diabetic who is active even at the age of 80, visited the camp and spoke to those present about the need for them to take their health seriously.

Dr Kumar says that people lacked awareness, which is a key reason that led him to start these camps. Eyebetes foundation camp camp was started in 2016 at the Lalbaugcha Raja during Ganesh Chaturthi and in 2017 at Siddhivinayak temple during the ten days of the festival, to enrol more people and get free screenings done.

More than 2300 benefit with a first of its kind initiative undertaken by the Eyebetes Foundation in association with Haji Ali Dargah trust by organising a free Diabetes and eye screening for all devotees visited the Haji Ali Dargah. Dr Nishant Kumar, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon said Diabetes is one of the leading causes for loss of sight. Patient underestimates the problem until it is too late.

Eyebetes Foundation in Association with Haji Ali Dargah trust is organising a free diabetes checkup and eye screening for all devotees at Haji Ali Dargah. Free blood sugar and blood pressure, vision assessment and retinal examination will be done on March 4 2018.

A free-of-cost eye check-up camp is scheduled at Haji Ali Dargah on March 4. Organised by Eyebetes Foundation, those screened will be provided free blood sugar and blood pressure readings, besides vision assessment and a retinal examination.

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition which deranges glucose metabolism resulting in increased blood glucose levels. The raised glucose levels in the blood affect almost every part of the body as their predominant effect is on all blood vessels. Increased sugar levels cause damage to the blood vessels causing every blood vessel to either shut down (occlusion) or for the blood vessels to be leaking causing swelling and edema. Most times there is a combination of occlusion and edema due to diabetes.
